VOC treatment and regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO)
Installation & maintenance
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) emitted by your industrial processes are subject to increasingly strict regulations. An improperly sized, poorly maintained, or non-compliant VOC treatment system can lead to penalties from local authorities, forced production shutdowns, and health risks for your employees. Combustion Technologies manages the entire process, from source capture to pollutant destruction.
What is a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO)?

Our services on RTO systems and VOC treatment
Audit and sizing
Before any installation, we conduct an audit of your emission flows: identifying VOC sources, measuring concentrations and flow rates, and analyzing the chemical composition of the effluents. This data allows us to precisely size your RTO (Recycling Treatment Unit) and anticipate regulatory constraints (prefectural decree for ICPE - Installation Classified for Environmental Protection).
Source capture
The effectiveness of a RTO (Remote Technical Optimization) system depends 50% on the quality of the collection system. We design and install collection networks adapted to your workshop layout:
-
Extraction hoods and textile ducts for low-temperature workshops
-
Metal ductwork (galvanized steel, stainless steel) for high-temperature applications
-
Collection and extraction fans sized to maintain the necessary negative pressure
-
Network balancing using motorized registers
Installation and commissioning
We take care of the complete installation of your RTO unit: civil engineering and foundations, process piping, electrical and pneumatic connections, programming of safety PLCs, commissioning and acceptance in the presence of your HSE manager and, if required, the ICPE inspection.
Preventive and corrective maintenance of oxidizers
An RTO requires annual maintenance to maintain its performance and regulatory compliance. We offer:
-
Inspection of regenerative beds and replacement of ceramic linings
-
Inspection and replacement of the temperature maintenance burners
-
Checking the switching valves and pneumatic actuators
-
Control of explosion-proof safety systems
-
Performance measurements and drafting of the maintenance report for your ICPE file
Revamping and optimization
Is your RTO over 10 years old and has its performance deteriorated? We can bring it up to standard: replacing the linings, modernizing the automation, and optimizing the burner to reduce gas consumption.
Regulations and compliance with ICPE regulations
The treatment of VOCs is regulated by the Ministerial Decree of February 2, 1998, concerning emissions from classified installations for environmental protection (ICPE). Emission limit values (ELVs) vary according to the mass flow of VOCs and the sector of activity. Your installation must undergo periodic inspections by an accredited body.
Combustion Technologies assists you in preparing for these inspections and in your dealings with the classified installations inspectorate.
